IBELIV

Some brands tell a story about style. IBELIV tells a family story first, and it begins in Madagascar.

It is the story of Tiana, the eldest of eleven children, two girls and nine boys. In Madagascar, a son represents a better guarantee for the future in the eyes of parents, and affection is not always shared out evenly. Tiana, for her part, has the temperament of an entrepreneur.

Very young, she finds herself raising her son Liva alone. Alongside her studies, she makes objects with her own hands to provide for them both, and understands something essential very early on: craftsmanship is a path to women's independence.

She passes on to her son perseverance, kindness and generosity, enrols him in the best schools, then saves so that he can go and study abroad. She steers him towards accountancy in France, a profession that in her eyes represents financial security for his future, and that justifies the sacrifice of such a separation.

In France, Liva makes wonderful human connections, and one decisive discovery: design, a lifelong passion. Accountancy gives him rigour and an understanding of economic life, but his first corporate jobs quickly disappoint him. A hierarchical organisation that leaves little room for progression, and even less for creation and travel. Time to rethink everything.

Going back to his roots then becomes obvious: designing accessories that showcase the natural resources and the ancient craft skills of Madagascar, with a contemporary touch. Tiana, who has always worked in craftsmanship and its transmission, throws herself into the project and recruits the first artisans alongside him. Together, they symbolically name the brand IBELIV.

The house chooses to offer Malagasy women a professional and empowering path. Their motivation and their will to do things well are enough to bring them into the adventure: each woman becomes the artisan of IBELIV's creations, but also the artisan of her own life. She puts her love, her history and her aspirations into the pieces she makes, which is what makes each one inimitable, carrying a genuine soul.

The adventure now brings together several hundred artisans, with a philosophy that has remained intact and is passed on to everyone who joins the team: to embody progress and fulfilment together. This is the house that Shop 17 is delighted to welcome to Cannes, steps from the Croisette.

Raffia, the signature of the house

Raffia is IBELIV's founding material. Supple, light, resilient, hand-woven in the workshops of Madagascar, it produces living bags with willingly irregular textures, lined in organic cotton and finished with vegetable-tanned zebu leather. Summer pieces par excellence, perfect on the French Riviera, from the beach to dinner in town.

Vegetable-tanned leather

Alongside raffia, IBELIV develops a line of bags in vegetable-tanned leather, lined in cotton. Rounded, roomy, pared-back shapes, designed for everyday life rather than for special occasions. Three families answer one another in store: Trinity, Pure and Aura.

Why IBELIV at Shop 17

Shop 17 selects houses that have something to say, never a catalogue. IBELIV ticks every box: a noble, durable material, a craft passed down, pieces made by hand of which no two are exactly alike, and a project that concretely changes the lives of the women who make them.

It is also, quite simply, the bag Cannes was missing: natural enough for the beach and long summer days, worked enough for lunch on a terrace and evenings on the Croisette. A piece that lasts for years and develops a patina instead of wearing out.

Come and discover the collection in Cannes

IBELIV bags can be seen and tried in store at 15 rue Notre-Dame, 06400 Cannes, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm. Nothing replaces holding a bag in your hands: feeling the grain of the raffia, the weight of the leather, the way it falls on the shoulder.
