NATAN

Some houses shout. Others whisper. Natan belongs firmly to the second family: the one built on effortless elegance, clean lines and fabrics that do all the talking.

From Brussels, the house pursues one simple, demanding idea: a wardrobe designed to last far beyond a single season. Architectural volumes, perfect drape, deep colours.

Le Shop 17 has picked out the season's most wearable and most desirable pieces, waiting for you at 15 rue Notre-Dame, a few steps from the Croisette.

A Belgian house, a century of allure

The story begins in 1930, on avenue Louise in Brussels, with the couture house Paul Natan. In 1983, Édouard Vermeulen took over and gave it the name it carries today, quite simply: NATAN. Born in Ypres in 1957 and trained as an interior designer, he approaches a garment the way one approaches a volume, with a feeling for proportion and structure.

The first runway show took place in 1986. The first ready-to-wear store opened in Brussels in 1987. In 1999, the house created Queen Mathilde's wedding dress, a moment that settled Natan permanently into the landscape of European elegance. Édouard Vermeulen was granted the title of baron in 2017.

The house then travelled well beyond Belgium: Amsterdam in 2016, Paris in 2020, Knokke in 2021. In 2023, Natan celebrated forty years of Édouard Vermeulen with a Paris show, before opening a dedicated space at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in 2024.

What runs through all those years? A constant vocabulary: sumptuous fabrics, satins that catch the light, pared-back cuts and a horror of anything superfluous. Natan dresses women who have nothing left to prove.
