Le Shop 17 guide
Body shape, without the boxes
Pear, hourglass, apple, rectangle. These words have the merit of having been around for a long time, and the flaw of suggesting that a body fits into a single box.
At Le Shop 17, we prefer to talk about proportions and balance: the way a defined waist, a structured shoulder, or a skirt length change the look of a silhouette, without ever suggesting that a body needs correcting.
No one needs a garment to feel slimmer, taller, or more of anything. Sometimes we simply want an outfit to fit well, to highlight what we feel like wearing that day, and to stay comfortable from morning to night on the Croisette. That's the whole point of this article: to offer concrete guidance, not a diagnosis.
Think balance rather than category
A silhouette is never fixed: it changes with the season, with your mood, with the piece you choose to layer over another. Rather than trying to work out which category you belong to, it's often more useful to ask yourself where you want to create volume, where you want to soften it, and where you simply want the eye to rest.
A jacket structured at the shoulders opens up the upper body's line. A defined waist, whether from a belt or a fitted cut, creates an anchor point. A flowing skirt or wide trousers give ease and movement. None of these options is reserved for a particular body type: they are tools, to be combined according to the effect you want, not prescriptions.
Three concrete guidelines, to adapt as you like
Play up one focal point at a time. A highly detailed piece on top pairs well with a simpler bottom, and vice versa. This keeps a beautiful piece from being diluted and gives the eye a place to rest.
Choose length before color. A hem that falls in the right place, a sleeve that ends at the right point on the wrist, often change the look more than a print or a shade. It's also the first thing an in-store fitting lets you check, far better than a photo online.
Match the fabric to the occasion, not to a rule. A flowing jersey moves with the body without ever clinging, while a structured satin or tweed holds its shape. No fabric is reserved for one silhouette: the choice mainly depends on the day ahead, and the feeling you want to wear.
Six pieces, six ways to play with line
A deliberately varied selection, to illustrate different balances rather than a single right answer.

An outside eye, not a judgment
No article can replace trying something on. A piece that looks perfect on a model or in a photo can fall differently once worn, and that's perfectly fine: every body has its own way of bringing a garment to life. In store, the Le Shop 17 team offers its perspective, never a rating or a verdict, to adjust a length, suggest a size up or down, or simply confirm that a piece is the right one.
This is also why Le Shop 17 favors a tighter selection over an endless catalog: fewer pieces, but cuts and fabrics designed to suit real bodies, not an average.
