A house born in Antwerp in 1999

Essentiel was founded in 1999 in Antwerp by Esfan Eghtessadi and Inge Onsea. It all started with a T-shirt collection, four styles in twenty colours; a year later the first boutique opened in Antwerp, and the collections quickly expanded to sweaters, jackets, dresses, shirts, trousers and accessories. Which size to choose at Essentiel

Depending on the piece, Essentiel uses several sizing systems, which is what most often causes confusion:

Letter sizes

Shirts, sweaters and knitwear come from XS to L. Cuts are often relaxed or oversized: if you hesitate between two sizes, the smaller one generally works for knitwear.

Number sizes

Jackets and structured pieces follow French sizing, from 34 to 40 depending on the model. For the shoulders of a jacket, it is best to stick to your usual size.

Jeans

Jeans are sized in inches, from 24 to 28 at the waist. Barrel or boyfriend cuts are deliberately loose in the leg: only the waist matters.
